Royal Guelphic Order of the Kingdom of Hanover Badge British Military UK w/ Case Box. A maltese cross with a gold lion between each arm of the cross. The center medallion is enameled with the white horse of Hanover & surrounded by a band of blue enamel inscribed with the motto of the order'NEC ASPERA TERRENT' ('Frightened by no difficulties' or less formally'difficulties be damned'). On the reverse side it displays roman numerals M D C C C X V (1815) The year the Royal Guelphic Order was founded. On the inside of the case is written Lieutenant Colonel McGrigor Lt. Mcgrigor 70th Regiment 70th Reg. The writing is somewhat faded and the cursive makes it a little difficult to read so my spelling may not be accurate. The maker of the case and medal is also no the inside lid of the case'Carl Zell' "Juvelier und Goldarbeiter in Hanover" (German translation-Jewelers and Gold Workers in Hanover). This is an amazing piece of history that was found in an estate. Approximate measurements the medal 2.25", the ribbon 2.5", and the case 6" length x 2.5" width.
