1897 HMS Foudroyant Nelson Flagship Relic Medal Boxed Sailors Society

1897 HMS Foudroyant relic medal in its original fitted case, struck from copper salvaged directly from Admiral Lord Nelson's former flagship after she wrecked at Blackpool, England, on June 16, 1897. HMS Foudroyant, an 80-gun Royal Navy third-rate launched in 1798, served as Nelson's flagship in the Mediterranean from 1799 to 1800.

Obverse: bust of Nelson in naval uniform and bicorn hat, with his birth and death dates and registration number 311490. This example retains its original fitted presentation case, the lining stamped with the British & Foreign Sailors' Society mark. Cased examples with legible period society stamps are notably scarcer than loose medals. This medal type is also represented in institutional collections, including the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich.
