He enlisted into the 19th Hussars in February 1892. He served with the regiment (including in India) until November 1897, when he transferred to the 20th Hussars. In January 1898, he was discharged from the army as medically unfit due to secondary syphilis. Edward re-joined the army, serving with the Royal Horse Artillery.
His number would suggest he might have been a member of the Special Reserve. He proceeded to France in October 1914.
He was discharged in 1920. By 1921, Edward was living in Kingston upon Thames, and was an out of work builders labourer. Edward died in 1927 at Kingston, Surrey. Please see photos for condition.
