1924 British Empire Exhibition Official Commemorative Medal By Percy Metcalfe

I have for sale the official commemorative medal for the 1924 British Empire Exhibition that was held in London. The medal is bronze, two inches diameter and graded MS 66 by NGC and housed in their very large holder. The medal was struck at the British Royal Mint and Percy Metcalfe was the medalists. This medal is listed in the Eimer catalog as #4193. The obverse shows the crowned & draped bust of King George V.

At the rim it reads GEORGE V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP: The reverse shows the roaring Wembley lion with the Towers of Wembley in the background. At the bottom rim it reads BRITISH EMPIRE - EXHIBITION - 1924. The exhibition took place at the Empire Stadium, later the Wembley Stadium, at Wembley, North-West London, and was intended to promote trade within the Empire, and to pay tribute to the colonial forces who had fought in the first world war.
