
For sale is a India Medal (1849 - 1895) with clasp SAMANA 1891 named CAPT H. It comes with copies of the medal roll, Army Lists, marriage certificate and newspaper articles.
Was born in Storrington, Sussex in 1860. He was commissioned into the Royal Engineers on 6/4/1879 as a Lieutenant. Posted to India in 1883, as was normal with Engineer Officers, served in a variety of civil and military appointments including the Military Works Department and Bengal Sappers and Miners. Advanced to Captain on 1/4/1889, he was part of the Samana Campaign of 1891 serving with the 5th Company B.& M when he qualified for the medal and clasp. Unit from August 1897 - December 1899. Advanced to Lt Colonel December 1904 and Colonel December 1907 and retired on 15/12/1909. He fell afoul of the law when in 1906 he was driving his private vehicle and a child threw a rock/berry at his car. He promptly stopped his vehicle and boxed the youths' ears for him.
He was subsequently charged with assault and fined 5 pounds. He was the CO of the Engineers at Colchester at the time. Please view my other collector's items for sale.
