Imperial Russian EMPEROR ALEXANDER III CORONATION Medal 1883 Mint Issue ORIGINAL

Imperial Russian Medal in Commemoration of the Coronation of Emperor Alexander III, 1883 issue. This is GUARANTEED ORIGINAL medal made at the St.

Petersburg Mint circa 1883 and officially issued by the Imperial Russian authorities. This is NOT a replica! The medal is in copper (aka "dark bronze"), 29.5 mm wide, weighs 15.3 g without suspension. Obverse shows portrait of the Emperor, with the inscription "Alexander III, By the Grace of God, Emperor and Autocrat of All Russia".

Cyrillic initials of the die maker?? For Leopold Shteinman in raised letters to the undercut of the shoulder. Reverse shows inscription "Crowned in Moscow on 15 May 1883". The medal is in FINE to VERY FINE condition, very respectable for an award that is well over 130 years old! There is moderate wear to the high points of the bas-relief, but most details of the Emperor's portrait are still nicely preserved.

The lettering is perfectly crisp on both sides, and so is the imperial crown on the reverse. The obverse has a scratch to the recessed field at about 1 o'clock position. There is also a single nick to the rim near the eyelet and a few relatively minor edge knocks, no significant bumps. Despite minor pitting, some of the original mint luster is still visible in recessed areas.

The medal comes with a new St Alexander Nevsky ribbon mounted on Soviet era suspension device.
