Rated Ordinary Seaman aboard HMS. 15th August 1887 and Able Seaman aboard HMS.Advanced to acting Chief Petty Officer at. 19th March 1895, he joined HMS. 11th April 1895 where he was Coxswain to Rear Admiral Drummond, Commander in Chief East India Station.
Confirmed in the rate of Chief Petty Officer 19th March 1896, he was promoted to Acting Boatswain (Warrant Officer) 28th February 1902 and appointed HMS. On the outbreak of war, he was appointed HMS. During her construction 26th October 1915 and remained aboard when commissioned in May 1916. Promoted to Chief Boatswain (Senior Warrant Officer) 1st March 1917, he was appointed Portsmouth Dockyard 4th March 1919, HMS. 14th June 1921 before being retired with the commissioned rank of Lieutenant, Royal Navy 12th August 1922. He married at St Stephens Church, Twickenham, Middlesex 11th March 1899, the 1939 Register records he is residing with his wife at Flat 3, 33 Petersham Road, Richmond Surrey, he died in 1957 aged 88 years. Also entitled to the British War and Victory Medals only, no Long Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded (promoted).
