An original Naval General Service Medal 1909 - 62 with clasp for Malaya awarded to a soldier who served in 3 Commando Brigade in Malaya and who before had served throughout World War Two and was wounded in action during the Korean War. The medal is correctly named as follows. Marine J Wilson joined the regiment in the 1940's based on his service number.
He originally served with 41 (Independent) Commando during World War Two and would have been involved with numerous campaigns including the D-Day Landings. After WW2 he served again with 41 Commando in Korea and was wounded at Chosin Reservoir in 1952.He also received the 1939-45 Star, The Italy Star, The France and Germany Star, The War Medal and the Korea Medal. He saw service with 3 Commando Brigade in Malaya in the 1950's. 40 Commando were based in the North of the country at Kuala Kangsa. 42 Commando were based in Perak near Ipoh.
45 Commando were based in Tapah in the south of the country. 3 Commando Brigade was sent to Malaya in May 1950 and 34 marines were killed during the conflict. Medal confirmed on the rolls.
