This is lovely one-of-a-kind new Fancy dance shawl made of heavy royal purple satin fully fringed with 14-inch white fringe on three sides; 55 X 55 inches square; featuring a white ribbon border along the sides. The shawl is customized with heavy hand beaded medallions hand made by Marianne L'Heureux; featuring faux pearls centered with a beaded turtle medallion symbolizing "Turtle Island", North America and the Americas.
The dance shawl was hand made by a lady artisan from the Onondaga Nation, one of the original five nations of the Iroquois Confederacy, in central New York state. A Certificate of Authenticity accompanies the shawl. The Onondaga Tribe's legendary chief, Hiawatha, symbolism was the original design on the shawl; Marianne customized the design to a Woodlands "Turtle Island" motif. The vibrant, butterfly-like Women's Fancy Shawl Dance is a style from Northern tribes, featuring colorful, fringed shawls; it is a Native American women's dance inspired by the fluttering of a butterfly's wings.
