Official Medal Set 2002 Commonwealth Games Manchester Original Royal Mint case. An official medal set commemorating the XVII (17th) Commonwealth Games. Manchester 2002, in their Royal Mint case of issue.

I would say that they were in extremely fine (EF) condition or better, with a few minor edge nicks and some tarnishing on the "gold" and bronze medals. Please take a detailed look at my photos and form your own opinion. The case is still in good condition.

The "gold" and silver medals are both made from hallmarked silver, with the former being gold-plated. The third medal is made from bronze. Each has a diameter of 50 mm and thickness of 3 mm. The respective weights are 55.5 gm, 54.7 gm and 46.6 gm.

The obverse has a design featuring a crown, surrounded by the legend "XVII COMMONWEALTH GAMES / MANCHESTER 2002". The reverse features the Spirit of Friendship logo with legend "Manchester 2002". The 17th Commonwealth Games were held in Manchester from 25th July to 4th August 2002 and were at the time the largest multi-sport event ever to be held in the UK, eclipsing previous Commonwealth Games and also the 1948 Olympics in terms of the number of teams and athletes participating.
