Old Ethiopian Order of Menelik Medal Lion of Judah Coin Altered Imperial Badge

This is an unusual old Ethiopian imperial decoration based on the Order of Emperor Menelik II, one of the historic orders associated with Imperial Ethiopia. The cross-shaped badge retains its striking red and green enamel decoration and ornate upper suspension.

What makes this particular example especially distinctive is that it was later repaired or modified, rather than remaining in its original factory configuration. The central components appear to have been replaced or adapted using Ethiopian pieces.

One side features a Lion of Judah button or medallion, while the opposite side incorporates an old Menelik coin. These later additions give the piece an individual character and reflect a period of repair, reuse, or adaptation during its history. The enamel displays the characteristic green and red colours associated with Ethiopia, while the central Lion of Judah imagery gives the piece an especially strong connection with the Ethiopian imperial tradition. An appealing collectible for those interested in. Condition: Old pre-owned condition with visible age-related wear, enamel losses, surface marks, patina and evidence of historical repair or alteration. The central elements are later additions and should not be considered original components of the Order in its original manufactured form. Origin: Ethiopia Type: Imperial order / decoration Period: Imperial Ethiopian era Modification: Later repaired/altered with Lion of Judah element and Menelik coin Material: Metal with enamel; exact metal composition not tested.
