Landwehr Service Award 1st Class. This award was established by King Ludwig II on January 21, 1876. It was initially awarded to officers and medical officers who, while on leave, had voluntarily undertaken a 20-year service commitment in the army and the Landwehr (reserve army) and demonstrated a keen interest in their service.
On September 17, 1906, Prince Regent Luitpold decreed that senior military officials of officer rank could also receive the Landwehr Service Award, 1st Class. Eight-pointed silver cross in the Maltese style.
The arms of the cross are polished and have a small raised rim. Both the obverse and reverse feature an applied round central shield (16 mm). Between the points of the upper arm of the cross is a soldered-on ordinary loop with a suspension ring.
The round central shield has a raised edge and a matte background. In the center, beneath a crown, is the decorated letter - L - on the horizontal line - II. In the middle the Roman numeral 20 - XX - the vertical lines are cross-hatched.
