Queens South Africa Medal 27755. Sgt ELWORTHY 31 company 24 battalion imperial Yeomanary ; Elworthy, John Wilfred. During the Second Boer War, 31 Company was part of the 24th Battalion Imperial Yeomanry a mounted force of the British Army, composed of middle-class volunteers, later included working-class recruits. The 31 company was a welsh unit Known as the, Montgomeryshire Yeomanry. Two companies were raised for the first contingent of the IY, both landed in South Africa on 6 April 1900 and assigned to the 9th (Welsh) Battalion, Imperial Yeomanry.
