Rare Russian Imperial 84 Silver St Barbara Double-Sided Devotional Medallion

Rare Russian Imperial Orthodox devotional medallion made of solid silver, hallmarked with the Imperial Russian 84 zolotnik standard (pre-1917). This exceptional piece is dedicated entirely to Saint Barbara the Great Martyr, one of the most revered female saints in the Russian Empire, traditionally invoked for protection against sudden and unprepared death. What makes this medallion especially remarkable is its double-sided depiction of Saint Barbara - an uncommon and highly collectible feature. Most devotional pendants show a saint on one side and a cross or another sacred image on the reverse.

Here, both sides are devoted to Saint Barbara, including a rare hagiographic scene rather than a simple portrait, which strongly elevates its religious and historical significance. Saint Barbara was widely venerated in Imperial Russia among soldiers, miners, craftsmen, and ordinary believers.
