A Victorian Royal Navy Long Service and Good Conduct Medal awarded to a Commissioned Boatman who served with the Royal Navy and His Majesties Coast Guard. The medal is correctly named as follows.

47741 Chief Boatman James Housely was born in Liverpool on 16th September 1850. He joined the Royal Navy on 16th September 1868 on his 18th birthday. He was 5'3 tall with brown hair, hazel eyes a fresh complexion with a scar on his left wrist. He served on the following ships / stations with the rank of. Royal Adelaide - Able Seaman.

Dryad - Able Seaman, Leading Seaman and Petty Officer. Topaze - (transfer to Coast Guard) - Boatman. Castletownsend - Boatman and Commissioned Boatman (Coast Guard in County Cork, Ireland). Schull - Commissioned Boatman and Chief Boatman. Kingstown, Dunmore - Chief Boatman.

Kingstown, Ballyally - Chief Boatman. South of Ireland - Chief Boatman. James was discharged on 30th September 1905 after an impressive 37 years of service. His character during his service was generally'Very Good' or'Exemplary'. This was the only medal he received during his service.
