Historic Date and Context: Nicholas II had just become the Tsar. His father, Alexander III, had died in 1894. Nicholas was actually crowned in May of 1896. Just having a large intricately carved and molded official Double-Headed Eagle Seal of the Tsar and his government makes this an important piece.
