Silver Medal 25th Anny. Marriage King Charles I of Württemberg & Olga Romanov
Marriage King Charles I of Württemberg & Olga Romanov. This medal dates from 1871 and is one of only 265 examples commissioned in silver. This is a unique opportunity to own a piece of history from a forgotten kingdom, with direct ties to the Russian Imperial House of Romanov. Weight is 56 grams on my kitchen scale. In 1871, the Württemberg royal couple - King Karl and Queen Olga from the House of Romanov - celebrated their silver wedding anniversary. Christian Schnitzspahn was commissioned to make a medal for this occasion.

It was to be issued to members of the Russian royal family and to members of the House of Württemberg, as well as to participants in the celebration of the marriage anniversary. A good 700 examples of this medal were minted: 25 in gold, 265 in silver and 408 in bronze. On its obverse, the heads of King Karl and Queen Olga are shown side by side to the right.

The reverse shows the crowned coat of arms of the Russian-Württemberg alliance.
