The medal is officially engraved (Long E engraver) to a Howard Whittaker, service number 3947. Whittaker was severely wounded on 8 September 1855 during the Storming of the Great Redan during the Siege of Sebastopol. Whittaker was either killed during the storming or died of his wounds soon after. There are signs of broaching along the rim, otherwise the medal is in VF condition.
It is exceedingly rare to find an engraved casualty medal as most are impressed. Medal originally came with the Turkish crimea medal so I'm keeping the pair together. However the suspension on the Turkish medal has been replaced. The item "Single Clasp Casualty Crimean War Medal Pair, Royal Fusiliers" is in sale since Thursday, December 17, 2020.
