1914-15 Star Trio with Messina Earthquake Medal. 240020 Able Seaman William Pollard, Royal Navy. ; British War and Victory Medals 240020 W. ; Italy, Messina Earthquake Medal 1908, unnamed, good very fine. Also with HMS Agincourt sports medal, school orchestra medal and Surbiton Charter Day medal (7). William Pollard was born on 4. May 1891 in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset.

Royal Naval service began on 16. November 1907, aged 16 years as a Boy, 2. Pollard was aboard armoured cruiser HMS Sutlej as a Boy, 1. Class, when she took part in the Messina Earthquake rescue operations of December 1908.

Advanced to Able Seaman, he served the duration of the Great War aboard dreadnought battleship HMS Agincourt ("The Gin Palace"), which participated in the Battle of Jutland 31. June 1916 and was present at the surrender of the German High Seas Fleet on 21.
