Thomas enlisted into the Royal Navy on the 18th January in 1913. He was aged 18 years and 2 months old upon enlisting. His completion upon enlisting was the following; his height was 5ft 5 inches, light brown, blue eyes and had a fresh complexion. During Thomas's time servicing in the Royal Navy he was issued and awarded a 1914-15 star, war medal, victory medal, and long service medal which are all present. Discharged 1st of August 1919. After 6 years and 6 months of service. He then joined the Royal Navy reserve until the 15th of February 1935, which was a further 15 years and 6 months of service.
