An original World War Two Air Crew Europe Star medal group awarded to a Royal Air Force Observer from 110 Squadron who was killed in action when his Blenheim IV R3773 crashed near their base at RAF Wattisham in Suffolk on a return flight from a bombing raid to Emden on 31st August 1940. This medals were awarded to 681552 Sergeant Harold Arthur Tune who had been living in St Mark's Road in Bath and who was 21 years old when he died. The group included the following.

Air Crew Europe Star - privately named Sgt 581552 SGT H. 1939-45 Star - privately named Sgt 581552 SGT H.

War Medal - privately named Sgt 581552 SGT H. Named RAF Condolence slip - Sergeant H. Tune whihc also confirms the award of the 3 medals. Moore of Ellsmore, Writhlington, Near Bath (Edith Elizabeth Moore - Harold's mother who had re-married).

Copy of Airmen Died in World War 2 for Harold. Copy of Bomber Command Losses in World War Two for Harold. Harold was educated at City of Bath Boys' School until his mother went live at Writhlington. He then continued his education at the Mid Somerset Norton County Secondary School. He was accepted for the RAF in November 1938 and he later joined 110 Squadron.

110 Squadron were based at RAF Wattisham. Harold's airplane crashed on his 14th mission when they were returning from a successful bombing raid on Emden Harbour. The pilot of the plane Pilot Office John Frederick Sydney Price was also killed. The Air Gunner Sergeant McDonald was seriously injured. The loss of Harold was published in the Bath Chronicle which gives the following information.

Bath Chronicle and Weekly Gazette - Saturday 7th September 1940. OBSERVER HAROLD TUNE, OF WRITHLINGTON News has been received that Sergt. Tune, only child of Mrs.

And of the late Mr. Was killed while on active service on Aug. Observer Tune, who was 21, lived in St. Mark's Road, Bath, and was educated at the City of Bath Boys' School until his mother went live at Writhlington. He then continued his education at the Midsomet Norton County Secondary School.

He was accepted for the R. November, 1938, afterwards being posted to the O. After war had been declared he was posted to a Blenheim Bomber, Squadron. He was a very enthusiastic motorcyclist, and most popular with the young men in the district. "I often think of the Writhlington boys when in the air, " was one of bis recent remarks when writing home.

Much sympathy has been extended to his mother and step-father. A memorial service will be held the Writhlington Parish Church. The interment will be at Dunkerton. Harold is buried at Dunckerton (All Saints) Churchyard.
