Royal Red Cross Decoration 1st Class engraved on rear 1957, 1939 -45 Star, Burma Star, Defence and War Medals 1939 1945 all unnamed as issued attributed to Major M. Comes with copies (fathers) WW1 service papers, London Gazettes and Register of Nurses. Major Muriel Irene Newbury was born on the 11/11/1914 in Ilford, her father Percy Cecil Newbury served in France with the Royal Garrison Artillery. She trained at the University College Hospital London 1932 -1934, and was a registered Nurse 15/3/1935.

Miss Newbury enlisted with the Queen Alexandras Imperial Military Nursing Service in 1937 as a provisional Staff Nurse (206353). Granted a commission with the rank of Sister 30/5/1941, Senior Sister to Junior Commander 1/2/1949, Senior Commander 1/9/49, Major with seniority 1/8/1949. She saw service in Burma in WW2 and the roll of practising Midwife 1954/55 records her as stationed at Military Hospital Bovington. Major Newbury was made a Member of the Royal Red Cross 1st Class on the New Years Honours list 1/1/1957 and the medal was presented to her in Bermuda by the Governor 15/7/1957, she retired as a Major in 1964 on reaching the compulsory retirement age and died in London on the 18/2/1968.
