WWI Imperial German Knights Cross-Iron Cross 2nd Class 1813-1914 Medal & Ribbon

WWI vintage German Imperial Army Knights Cross - Grand Cross of the Iron Cross 2nd Class medal & ribbon. PLEASE NOTE: This particular medal is not magnetic. Later in WWI iron & silver were in short supply, so silver plate trim around an alloy center was used. This is an example of that practice. I have no doubt that this is an authentic WWI medal however , as it was found in the attic of an old house in a box full of other WWI medals & insignia that had been collected in the 1920s or 1930s by a family member.

I do not normally seek out or offer military items. I just happened onto this "time capsule" find.

Dimensions of medal: 1 3/4" x 1 3/4". Overall length of medal & ribbon: 3 3/4.

Embossed on the obverse are a crown at the top, a "W" at the center & 1914 at the bottom. Embossed on the reverse are a crown & "FW" at the top, a plant at the center & 1813 at the bottom. Medal is in Very Good condition. Partial ribbon is in "as-found" Fair condition.
