1912 UNITED KINGDOM GREAT BRITAIN BRITISH MERCHANT MARINE FULL SIZE MEDAL NAMED. The Mercantile Marine War Medal. The Mercantile Marine War Medal was issued by the United Kingdom's Board of Trade to members of the Merchant Navy who completed one or more voyages through a war or danger zone during WW1, with around 133,135 medals awarded. A small number also went to Royal Navy personnel seconded to the Mercantile Marine between 4 August 1914 and 31 December 1915, when the Merchant Navy was known by that name. Made of bronze, the medal's obverse features an uncrowned profile of King George V by Sir Bertram Mackennal.
The ribbon is half green and half red, divided by a thin white stripe, and measures the standard 32mm width. Eligibility required having been awarded the British War Medal and proof of service on at least one voyage through a danger zone. All items are guaranteed genuine!
