WWII Imperial Japanese Army Veterans Association Badge with Box Gunyukai Medal
This is an original WWII-era membership badge of the Gunyu-kai, the official veterans' association for former members of the Imperial Japanese Army. Made of metal and housed in its original wooden presentation box, the badge features an intricate design. A cherry blossom (symbol of the Army). A golden five-pointed star (symbolizing loyalty and patriotism). And two anchors flanking the star. Although the design includes anchors, this is not a Navy badge. Gunyu-kai was strictly an Army-affiliated veterans' group, and this particular badge likely came from a coastal region or maritime branch where many retired soldiers found work in shipyards or transport after their service.
The back of the badge reads. " / " (Empire of Japan / Gunyu-kai Member Badge). The box lid is marked (Gunyu-kai Membership Badge). And inside is a maker's label: (Toyo Insignia Manufacturing), located in Asakusa, Tokyo. Own a Piece of History.
